The world's clearest lake... Blue lake is a spring fed lake at 1200m altitude. Considered Tapu (sacred) by Maori, people are not permitted to enter the lake.
Visibility in the lake is up to 80 metres - meaning the water is considered almost as "optically clear" as distilled water - you will never experience something like this elsewhere.

Walks
High mountain peaks reflected in the waters of lakes Rotoiti and Rotoroa are part of the splendour of Nelson Lakes National Park, South Island, New Zealand.
This alpine region is at the northern limit of the K? Tiritiri o Te Moana/Southern Alps, where ancient glaciers have shaped the dramatic landscape, leaving in their wake loose scree slopes, tarns and hanging, U-shaped valleys.
Fishing
Lake Rotoiti is a deep clean lake surrounded by forest making it a great habitat for trout.
In New Zealand you are required to have a fishin license for certain areas, you can purchase one online for the day at $20.00
Skiing
The Mt Robert Lodges are situated in the pristine alpine environment of Mt Roberts 2nd Basin in the beautiful Nelson Lakes National Park. They are easily accessible to the Top of the South for a weekend away with family or friends.
Winter fun for everyone - Rainbow's wide, uncrowded slopes and well-groomed trails provide superb terrain for beginners and intermediates. Advanced skiers challenge themselves in the high powder and shutes, while snowboarders love the varied terrain, bumps and drops. And when it's time for a break - relax in the cafe.

Ice Skating
The local ice skating pond periodically freezes during winter. To find out if it's frozen over, contact DoC St Arnaud Area Office. Skates are sometimes available for hire next to the St Arnaud Alpine Store.
